Here is an example of a metal trim fastened to the wall with the wire cut and nailed to either side of the trim. The problem is there is no stud(s) behind the trim so the wire will only be fastened to plywood or OSB. The staple or nail in those substrates will not have the holding power to restrain the cement plaster as it cures. The plaster will probably curl away from the trim which will not only be unsightly but allow a great deal of water penetration if it’s on the weather side of the building.
