FRAMING

Inspection

FRAMING:
-
Verify that the wood framing is structurally sound and meets the local building code requirements.
-
Check for any signs of damage, such as warping, twisting, or rotting in the framing members.
-
Ensure that the framing is adequately spaced and properly aligned to support the sheathing and stucco.

SHEATHING
-
Confirm that the sheathing material, typically plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), is installed correctly.
-
Ensure that the sheathing is securely fastened to the framing members with the appropriate fasteners, such as nails or screws.
-
Inspect for proper spacing and alignment of the sheathing panels to minimize gaps and ensure structural integrity.

LATHING
Recommendations

WRB
-
Ensure that the lath installation is properly secured and securely fastened to the underlying structure, providing a stable substrate for the stucco application.
-
Inspect the lath for any signs of damage, such as bent or twisted sections, missing or loose fasteners, or areas that are not properly aligned.
-
Verify that the lath is installed with the proper overlap and spacing as specified by the manufacturer or industry standards.

PLASTER

Brown Coat Install

PREPARATION
-
Follow Western 1-Kote product instructions for mixing the stucco basecoat material.
-
Gradually add water while mixing until you achieve a uniform, workable consistency.
-
Avoid overmixing, as it can introduce air bubbles into the mix.

APPLICATION
-
Start at the top of the wall and work your way down, applying the stucco basecoat in even, horizontal layers.
-
Maintain a consistent thickness throughout the application, typically around 3/8 to 1/2 inch.
-
Apply the stucco basecoat in small sections to ensure proper workability and avoid drying out before it can be properly floated

DARBY

Recommendations

INSTALLATION
-
Using firm, even pressure, push the darby upwards in a straight line.
-
Overlap each darby stroke by about 1/3 of the darby's width to ensure even coverage.
-
Smooth out any ridges or irregularities, ridges or indentations in the basecoat as you go.

FLOATING

Neoprene Float

INSTALLATION
-
Use a Neoprene float to properly smooth and compact the surface.
-
Hold the float at a slight angle and move it in circular or sweeping motions.
-
This process helps achieve a uniform texture and removes any imperfections.

CURING

Moist Curing

INSTALLATION
-
Properly moist cure the base coat for the recommended time, usually around 48 hours
-
Weather factors will determine proper curing times.
-
Allow the water to saturate the wall thoroughly during this process.

CRACKS

Crack Repairs

OBSERVATIONS
-
Hairline cracking may occur. This is not a stucco failure. Stucco cracks!
-
Cracks may be repaired if necessary prior to the installation of the Finish Coat. CRS System is recommended.
-
Fibermesh tape and polymer-based cementitious adhesive are recommended to repair cracking on the basecoat.

FINISH

Finish Coat

INSTALLATION
-
inspect the surface for any remaining imperfections or rough areas.
-
Primer and Premium Acrylic Finishes are recommended.
-
Apply Finish Coats according to manufacturer's installation guidelines.
