Product Information
Description:
BPS Stucco is a polymer modified portland cement product designed to be used with conventional or one coat portland cement plaster wall systems.
Features and Uses:
-
BPS Stucco may be used for the following applications:
-
Bonding and plastering EPS foam shapes.
-
Patching hairline cracks in portland cement plaster.
-
Skim coating directly over portland cement.
-
A mesh embedment coat for use over portland cement and WES EIFS 24 Systems (BPS 24).
Benefits:
-
It is an all in one mix so every batch is accurate.
-
It is flexible and water resistant.
-
Provides superb adhesion to portland cement.
-
Provides an excellent substrate for acrylic finishes to adhere to.
Packaging:
BPS Stucco is packaged in 50 lb / 22.7 kg sacks. Fifty-six sacks per pallet.
Sands Blends:
-
BPS Stucco is available the following presentations:
-
BPS Fine
-
BPS Super Fine
-
BPS Smooth
-
BPS 24 - For WES EIFS 24 System basecoat & adhesive applications.
Coverage:
Coverage at 1/16” is approximately 70 square feet per bag. Porosity of substrates will affect the coverage. The “Super Fine” presentation will get slightly better coverage then the “Fine” presentation. The “Smooth AF” presentation is higher in cement and polymer contents and it’s designed for super smooth-durable skim coats which extends 20% more in coverage. BPS 24 will cover approximately 50 sq.ft.per bag when used as a basecoat in WES EIFS 24 Systems. For adhesive only, the coverage is approximately 100 sq.ft.for WES EIFS 24 Systems. Embedding mesh will require a thicker application to achieve full embedment of the mesh. It is also recommended to increase the thickness of the application over EPS foam shapes to provide more durability.
Mixing:
Each 50 Lb sack of BPS Stucco is mixed with 1.25 gallons of potable water in a clean pail and drill mixed with a paddle mixer. Initial mixing time is approximately 3 minutes or until the material is thoroughly wet. The material shall stand for 5 minutes. Add additional water as needed (up to 6 ounces.) and mix for one minute or just the time it takes to disperse the additional water.
Application in WES EIFS 24 Systems:
Application as an adhesive in WES EIFS 24 Systems (BPS24):
Apply using a notched trowel with 3/8” notches, 1/2” deep, 1 1/2”spaced apart. Apply BPS 24 vertically on the back side of the insulation board. Immediately place the insulation board on the substrate.
Application as a basecoat in WES EIFS 24 Systems (BPS24):
Apply the basecoat to the entire surface of the insulation board. Fully embed the reinforcing mesh in the wet base by troweling from the center to the edge. Avoid wrinkles. Recommended method is to apply the basecoat in two applications. See WES EIFS 24 System application instructions.
Application in Stucco Systems:
Application as a skim coat:
Apply 1/16” thick BPS Stucco with a steel trowel over portland cement. Smooth plaster with trowel.
Application as EPS adhesive:
All surfaces to receive EPS shapes shall be moistened before application. The surface of the EPS shape shall also be scored to provide a good key for the adhesive. Apply BPS Stucco with ½” x ½” notched trowel to the back of the EPS shape. Coverage should be 100% with BPS Stucco. Press firmly into place.
Application as an embedment coat for mesh:
Embed mesh in a 1/16” thick layer of BPS Stucco. Use trowel to apply pressure to fully embed the mesh. Smooth plaster with trowel. An additional coat may be required if mesh is visible.
Application as a patching plaster:
BPS Stucco may be directly troweled over hairline cracks in cement brown coats before the application of a BPS skim coat. For cracks larger then hairline (1/64”) or 'dynamic' cracks, work BPS Stucco into the crack then apply 2” fiberglass tape over the crack. Trowel BPS Stucco over the top and another 6” to 8” in al directions from the repaired area. Feather the edges to blend into the cement substrate. Skim coat entire surface as described above.
Curing:
The product requires a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours moist curing. Environmental conditions such as heat, wind and low humidity will require additional curing.
Finishing:
A variety of finishes such as standard acrylic paints, textured acrylic finishes or elastomeric coatings may be applied over BPS Stucco. The recommendations of the finish coat manufacturer shall be followed regarding base coat preparation, acceptable pH levels, bonding, application and curing of their finish.
Limitations:
