Description:
BPS Kote is a polymer modified portland cement product designed to be used with conventional or one coat portland cement plaster wall systems. BPS Kote (Armor CRS) is a component of WBP’s Crack Resistant System (CRS).

Features and Uses:

  • BPS Kote may be used for the following applications:

  • Bonding and plastering EPS foam shapes.

  • Patching hairline cracks in portland cement plaster.

  • Skim coating directly over portland cement.

  • BPS Armor CRS is specifically formulated for use as the reinforcing basecoat in Western Blended Products Crack Resistant System (CRS).

Benefits:

  • It is an all in one mix so every batch is accurate.

  • It is flexible and water resistant.

  • Provides superb adhesion to portland cement.

  • Designed as a component in WBP’s CRS System.

  • Provides an excellent substrate for exterior finishes to adhere to.

  • Extended system warranties may be available when BPS Armor CRS is installed as part of a qualified WBP System assembly.

Packaging:

  • BPS Kote is packaged in 50 lb / 22.7 kg sacks.

  • 56 sacks per pallet.

Sands Blends:
BPS Kote is available the following presentations:

  • BPS Fine

  • BPS Super Fine

  • BPS Armor CRS (Embedment Grade. For WBP’s CRS - System Embedment).

Coverage:

  • Bond & Patch: Coverage at 1/16” is approximately 70 square feet per bag.  Porosity of substrates will affect the coverage. The “Super Fine” presentation will get slightly better coverage then the “Fine” presentation.

  • Skim & Embed: The “Armor CRS” presentation is higher in cement and polymer contents and it’s designed for super smooth-durable skim / embedment coats which extends 20% more in coverage. Embedding mesh will require a thicker application to achieve full embedment of the mesh. It is also recommended to increase the thickness of the application over EPS foam shapes to provide more durability.

Mixing:
Each 50 Lb sack of BPS Kote is mixed with 1.25 gallons of potable water in a clean pail and drill mixed with a paddle mixer. Initial mixing time is approximately 3 minutes or until the material is thoroughly wet.  The material shall stand for 5 minutes.  Add additional water as needed (up to 6 ounces.) and mix for one minute or just the time it takes to disperse the additional water.

CRS Embedment Coating Application - CRS System Component (BPS Armor CRS Embedment Coat):

  1. Basecoat Preparation: Apply BPS Armor CRS over an approved, cured portland cement plaster basecoat or approved substrate in accordance with the Western Blended Products CRS System requirements.

  2. Recommended basecoat thickness: Minimum 1/16". Ensure that sufficient thickness is achieved when fully embedding mesh. No mesh should be visible after curing.

  3. Mesh Embedment: Immediately embed WBP’s Fiberglass EIFS & Stucco Mesh into the wet basecoat using a stainless steel trowel.

  4. Embed mesh in a layer of BPS Armor CRS. Use trowel to apply pressure to fully embed the mesh.  Smooth plaster with trowel. An additional coat may be required if mesh is visible.

  5. Trowel from center to edges to ensure full embedment and avoid wrinkles or air pockets.

  6. Confirm mesh is fully encapsulated with no visible exposure after curing.

  7. Overlap adjacent mesh pieces by at least 2.5 inches (64 mm).

  8. Detailing: At high-stress areas (window corners, control joints), double-wrapping mesh or using pre-cut reinforcement patches is recommended.

Application in Typical Stucco Systems:

  • Application as a skim coat: Apply 1/16” thick BPS Kote with a steel trowel over portland cement. Smooth plaster with trowel.

  • Application as EPS adhesive: All surfaces to receive EPS shapes shall be moistened before application.  The surface of the EPS shape shall also be scored to provide a good key for the adhesive.  Apply BPS Kote with ½” x ½” notched trowel to the back of the EPS shape. Coverage should be 100% with BPS Kote. Press firmly into place.

  • Application as an embedment coat for mesh: Embed mesh in a 1/16” thick layer of BPS Armor CRS. Use trowel to apply pressure to fully embed the mesh.  Smooth plaster with trowel. An additional coat may be required if mesh is visible.

  • Application as a patching plaster: BPS Kote may be directly troweled over hairline cracks in cement brown coats before the application of a BPS skim coat. For cracks larger than hairline (1/64”) or 'dynamic' cracks, work BPS Kote into the crack  then apply 2” fiberglass tape over the crack.  Trowel BPS Kote over the top and another 6” to 8” in all directions from the repaired area. Feather the edges to blend into the cement substrate.  Skim coat entire surface as described above.

Curing:
The product requires a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours moist curing.  Environmental conditions such as heat, wind and low humidity will require additional curing.

Finishing:
A variety of finishes such as standard acrylic paints, textured acrylic finishes or elastomeric coatings may be applied over BPS Kote. The recommendations of the finish coat manufacturer shall be followed regarding base coat preparation, acceptable pH levels, bonding, application and curing of their finish.

Limitations:

  • Do not add accelerator, air entrainment or other admixtures to BPS Kote without written permission from an authorized manufacturer of Western Blended Products.

  • Do not apply BPS Kote on surfaces sloped less than 30 degrees or surfaces that are below grade or subject to hydrostatic pressure.

  • Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are at or below 40°F (4.4°C) or above 100°F (34°C).

  • Do not apply to surfaces that are contaminated with bond breakers, oils or other matter that may affect the performance of the product.

  • Do not apply BPS Kote if conditions are expected to be above or below the specified temperature range within 24 hours of application.

  • Do not add additional ingredients to BPS Kote without specific written approval from an authorized manufacturer of Western Blended Products.

Storage:
BPS Kote shall be kept indoors or if stored outdoors, shall be adequately covered to keep dry and be stored off the ground.
