Description:
White Kote, (WK), is a Keenes Gypsum Cement based product, for use as a high strength gauging plaster. It provides a durable, highly crack-resistant finish and hard-wear sand float-finish surface. As a smooth-trowel finish, it offers a strong and hard surface when densified by extensive troweling through its set. It is the only gypsum product that can be retempered. It allows mixing large batches for job-colored finishes.

Packaging:
50 lbs (22.68 Kg). 50 Sacks per pallet.

Benefits:

  • Requires only the addition of water

  • Provides a high-strength, durable, crack-resistant finish

  • May be colored on any size job

  • May be retempered

  • Can be troweled smooth or sand finish

Substrates:
WK should be applied over only proper sanded or wood fiber gypsum basecoats. Thickness will vary depending on the substrate. (Grounds, including finish coat: gypsum lath-1/2” (face of lath), metal lath 3/4” (back of lath), unit masonry-5/8”.) Lightweight aggregate plasters are not recommended over metal lath when finish coat is to be smooth troweled.

Coverage:

White Kote will cover approximately 80 sq. ft. / 7.43 sq. meters at an applied thickness of 1/16”.

Preparation:
Uniform gypsum plaster basecoat.

Mixing:
When mixing WK, cool clean potable water must be used. Start by putting water into the mixer, then begin adding the plaster. Keep adding water to desired consistency. Let mix for minimum 15 minutes. For best workability, stop mixing and let material sit. A thin layer of water is recommended to be placed on top to prohibit the surface from drying. Remix when ready to a working consistency. After each batch, all tools and equipment must be washed out thoroughly before beginning the next batch. If any residue from prior batch is present, the next batch will set much faster than intended.

Application:
Apply WK in a scratch and double back format. The basecoat should be set and partially dry. This will help minimize the formation of blisters. After the scratch coat has been applied over a workable area, double back with sufficient material from the same batch to cover the basecoat completely.

Thickness:
Should be approximately 1/16”. For a smooth finish coat, trowel the surface to remove all voids and imperfections after the surface has become firm. Using water sparingly, trowel the surface to densify It. Just prior to set, final trowel the surface. Caution: Working with material from one batch for scratch and double back application is necessary to prevent problems associated with different set times and possible dry-out conditions.

Drying:
White Kote requires stable temperatures and ventilation during application and during the period of time required for the plaster to dry. The required temperature range for the application and drying of gypsum plaster shall be 55°F – 70°F / 12°C – 21°C.

Curing:
White Kote will cure naturally under normal conditions. Care shall be taken to protect finished areas from heat and wind. During cold temperatures, heaters may be used in combination with adequate ventilation and ambient humidity to allow normal curing to take place. Under normal conditions, White Kote is ready to receive paint when finish has set.

Limitations:
Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are below 40°F / 4.4°C or above 100°F / 34°C. Do not apply to surfaces that are contaminated with bond breakers, oils, or other matter that may affect the performance of the product. Do not apply if conditions are expected to be above or below the specified temperature ranges within 24 hours of application.
