EZ-Kote Stucco
A polymer-modified cementitious skim,
leveling and bonding coat for surface preparation
Product Information
Description:
EZ Kote is a polymer-modified portland cement product designed to be used with conventional or one-coat portland cement plaster wall systems. EZ Kote functions as a multi-use material for skim coating, surface leveling and bonding applications over cementitious substrates.

The material is formulated with a fine aggregate gradation to allow for tight, smooth finishes when applied as a skim coat, while maintaining sufficient body for leveling irregular surfaces. EZ Kote is used to create a uniform substrate over portland cement plaster prior to the application of finish coatings.

In addition to skim and leveling applications, EZ Kote may be used as a bonding material for EPS foam shapes where adhesion to approved substrates is required. The polymer modification enhances adhesion characteristics while maintaining compatibility with cementitious and polymer-based finish systems.

Features and Uses:
EZ Kote may be used for the following applications:
-
Skim coating directly over portland cement plaster surfaces.
-
Leveling and smoothing irregular cementitious substrates.
-
Surface preparation prior to application of finish coatings.
-
Bonding EPS foam shapes to approved substrates.

Benefits:
-
Provides a smooth, uniform surface for finish applications.
-
Polymer modification improves adhesion to cementitious substrates.
-
Multi-use material for skim, leveling and bonding applications.
-
Fine sand blend allows for tight, smooth finishes.
-
Provides a suitable substrate for cementitious and polymer finish systems.

Packaging:
-
EZ Kote is packaged in 50 lb / 22.7 kg sacks.
-
56 sacks per pallet.

Coverage:
-
Skim / Level Application: Coverage is approximately 70 to 90 square feet per bag depending on substrate condition and application thickness.
-
Bonding Application: Coverage will vary based on substrate condition and application method. Full contact coverage is required when bonding EPS shapes.

Mixing:
Each 50 lb sack of EZ Kote is mixed with potable water in a clean pail and drill mixed with a paddle mixer. Initial mixing time is approximately 3 minutes or until the material is thoroughly wet. The material shall stand for 5 minutes. Add additional water as needed and mix for one minute or just the time required to disperse the additional water.

Application in Typical Stucco Systems:
-
Application as a Skim Coat:
Apply EZ Kote with a steel trowel over portland cement plaster surfaces. Smooth material with trowel to achieve a uniform surface.

-
Application for Surface Leveling:
Apply EZ Kote to irregular cementitious surfaces to establish a uniform plane prior to finish application.

-
Application as EPS Adhesive:
All surfaces to receive EPS shapes shall be moistened before application. The surface of the EPS shape shall be scored to provide mechanical key. Apply EZ Kote with a notched trowel to the back of the EPS shape. Coverage should be 100%. Press firmly into place. The application of fiberglass tape at joints is recommended.

Curing:
The product requires a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours moist curing. Environmental conditions such as heat, wind and low humidity will require additional curing.

Finishing:
Exterior Stucco Finish, Premium Acrylic Finish, standard acrylic paints, textured stucco or acrylic finishes, or elastomeric coatings may be applied over EZ Kote. The recommendations of the finish coat manufacturer shall be followed regarding base coat preparation, acceptable pH levels, bonding, application and curing of their finish.

Limitations:
-
Do not apply EZ Kote on surfaces sloped less than 30 degrees or surfaces that are below grade or subject to hydrostatic pressure.
-
Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are at or below 40°F (4.4°C) or above 100°F (34°C).
