Description:
Foam-Kote is a polymer modified portland cement product designed for laminating EPS foam to approved substrates and as a coating for EPS to which various finishes may be applied. Acceptable substrates for Foam- Kote are concrete walls, conventional stucco brown coats or Western 1-Kote.

Packaging:
Foam-Kote is packaged in 50 lb / 22.7 kg sacks.

Benefits:
Foam-Kote is a more cost-effective method of bonding EPS shapes than wet mixes available on the market today. The material may be prepared incrementally as needed; reducing waste and job site clean up. By utilizing Foam Kote, in lieu of job site batch mixes, contractors are assured of a consistent, high quality adhesive and coating product.

Sands Blends:
Foam-Kote is available in a “fine” and “medium” sand blend. The fine sand is the preferred base for acrylic finishes. The medium sand provides a better ‘key’ for bonded exterior stucco finishes.

Coverage when used for adhering EPS shapes:
25 to 30-sq. ft. / 2.32 to 2.78 sq. meter per bag.

Coverage when coating EPS shapes:
75 to 100-sq. ft. / 6.96 to 9.29 sq. meters depending on the thickness of the coating.

Mixing:
Each 50-lb. sack of Foam-Kote is mixed with 1.15 gallons of water in a clean pail and drill mixed with a Windlock type paddle mixer. Initial mixing time is approximately 3 minutes or until the material is thoroughly wet. The material shall stand for 5 minutes. Add additional water as needed and mix for an additional minute or just the time it takes to disperse the additional water.

Application / Adhesive:
All surfaces to receive EPS shapes shall be moistened before application. The surface of the EPS shape shall also be scored to provide a good key for the adhesive. Apply 1/4” Foam-Kote with a notched trowel to the back of the EPS shape. Coverage should be 100% with Foam-Kote. Press the shape firmly and evenly onto the surface. Additional support may be required to hold larger shapes in place while adhesive cures. Foam-Kote is also applied to butt joints. The application of 2” fiberglass tape is recommended at these joints.

Application / Coating:
Fiberglass mesh is required as reinforcement to improve the durability and quality of EPS shapes. Foam-Kote may be applied from 1/8” to 1/4” in thickness over exposed surfaces. Foam-Kote surfaces shall be given a 48-hour curing period before finish coating is applied.

Curing:
The product requires a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours moist curing. Environmental conditions such as heat, wind and low humidity will require additional curing.

Finishing:
A variety of finishes such as Western Exterior Stucco, Premium Acrylic Finish – elastomeric formula, (PAF e) standard acrylic paints or elastomeric coatings may be applied over Foam Kote. The recommendations of the finish coat manufacturer shall be followed regarding base coat preparation, acceptable pH levels, bonding, application and curing of their finish.
