Product Information
Description:
Foam Kote is a polymer-modified portland cement product designed to be used with conventional or one-coat portland cement plaster wall systems. Foam Kote is used for laminating EPS foam shapes and as a coating for EPS surfaces to receive finish applications.

The material is formulated to provide both adhesive and coating functionality within EPS foam applications. When used as an adhesive, Foam Kote provides bond between EPS foam and approved cementitious substrates. When used as a coating, the material creates a uniform, durable cementitious surface over EPS foam shapes.

Foam Kote is designed to be applied over shaped or rasped EPS surfaces to establish a consistent substrate prior to the application of finish systems. The polymer modification enhances adhesion characteristics while maintaining compatibility with cementitious and polymer-based finishes. Reinforcement with fiberglass mesh is incorporated when used as a coating to improve surface durability and crack resistance.

Features and Uses:
Foam Kote may be used for the following applications:
-
Laminating EPS foam shapes.
-
Coating EPS foam surfaces to receive finish applications.
-
Leveling and smoothing rasped EPS foam surfaces prior to finish application.

Benefits:
-
A more cost-effective method of bonding EPS shapes than wet mixes.
-
Material may be prepared incrementally as needed, reducing waste and job site clean up.
-
Provides a consistent adhesive and coating material.
-
Fine sand blend provides a suitable base for acrylic finishes.
-
Medium sand blend provides mechanical key for cementitious finishes.

Packaging:
-
Foam Kote is packaged in 50 lb / 22.7 kg sacks.
-
56 sacks per pallet.

Sand Blends:
Foam Kote is available in the following presentations:
-
Fine
-
Medium
Coverage:
-
Adhesive Application: Coverage is approximately 25 to 30 square feet per bag depending on substrate condition and application method.
-
Coating Application: Coverage is approximately 75 to 100 square feet per bag depending on application thickness. Embedding mesh and increased thickness over EPS foam will reduce coverage.

Mixing:
Each 50 lb sack of Foam Kote is mixed with approximately 1.15 gallons of potable water in a clean pail and drill mixed with a paddle mixer. Initial mixing time is approximately 3 minutes or until the material is thoroughly wet. The material shall stand for 5 minutes. Add additional water as needed and mix for one minute or just the time required to disperse the additional water.
Application in Typical Stucco Systems:
-
Application as EPS Adhesive:
All surfaces to receive EPS shapes shall be moistened before application. The surface of the EPS shape shall be scored to provide mechanical key. Apply Foam Kote with a notched trowel to the back of the EPS shape. Coverage should be 100% with Foam Kote. Press firmly into place. Additional support may be required for larger shapes while adhesive cures. Foam Kote is also applied to butt joints. The application of fiberglass tape at these joints is recommended.
-
Application as EPS Coating:
Apply Foam Kote over EPS foam surfaces with a steel trowel. Reinforcing mesh is required when used as a coating. Apply sufficient thickness to fully embed mesh. No mesh shall be visible after curing.

-
Application for Surface Leveling:
Foam Kote may be applied over rasped EPS surfaces to provide a uniform plane prior to finish application.

Curing:
The product requires a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours moist curing. Environmental conditions such as heat, wind and low humidity will require additional curing.

Finishing:
A variety of finishes such as standard acrylic paints, textured acrylic finishes or elastomeric coatings may be applied over Foam Kote. The recommendations of the finish coat manufacturer shall be followed regarding base coat preparation, acceptable pH levels, bonding, application and curing of their finish.

Limitations:
-
Do not apply Foam Kote on surfaces sloped less than 30 degrees or surfaces that are below grade or subject to hydrostatic pressure.
-
Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are at or below 40°F (4.4°C) or above 100°F (34°C).
-
Do not apply to surfaces that are contaminated with bond breakers, oils or other matter that may affect the performance of the product.
-
Do not apply Foam Kote if conditions are expected to be above or below the specified temperature range within 24 hours of application.
-
Do not add additional ingredients to Foam Kote without specific written approval from an authorized manufacturer of Western Blended Products.

Storage:
Foam Kote shall be kept indoors or if stored outdoors, shall be adequately covered to keep dry and be stored off the ground.
