Insulite Lightweight Stucco
A lightweight cementitious basecoat for conventional stucco systems.
Product Information
Description:
Insulite is a lightweight portland cement 35% lighter in weight than traditional sanded basecoats. Insulite replaces traditional aggregates in the mix design with light additives without compromising strength or durability. Insulite is designed to be a pump grade or hand applied product that requires water only and does not require additional additives.
Insulite is available in a Premium Blend (FS) presentation, with the same premium attributes as Western 1-Kote Premium Products.
Packaging:
Insulite is packaged in 50 lb / 22.68 kg bags.
Benefits:
-
Excellent flow for pumping.
-
Faster mixing cycles than bags of cement mixed with jobsite aggregate.
-
Consistent mixes from batch to batch.
-
Improves “R” value, impact resilience and freeze-thaw durability.
-
Easy to handle, mix and apply.
-
Cuts shipping, handling and application labor costs.
-
Improves hydration, water repellency and crack-resistance.
-
Reduces building wall weight.
Coverage:
Insulite covers approximately 1.3 sq. yards / 1.1 sq. meters @ 3/4”
Mixing:
Each bag Insulite is mixed with 1.25 to 1.5 gallons of clean, potable water. Insulite shall be mixed in a mechanical type mixer. Add half the potable water required for the entire batch and one bag of Insulite to the mixer. While Insulite and water are mixing, add all the bags of Insulite required for the batch. Add the minimum amount of water to bring the mix to the proper consistency. Do not over water. Too much water in the mix will increase shrinkage cracking. Allow batch to mix for 3 to 5 minutes after all materials are added. Do not over mix.
Application:
Insulite may be applied by hand or machine. When applied by hand, Insulite can be applied in a scratch and double back method; once the first coat (scratch) is firm enough to support an additional coat, the second coat (brown) could be applied. Insulite should be hard floated using a cork, neoprene or plastic float. Green sponge floats are not recommended. Application methods, acceptable substrates and total applied thickness shall meet the requirements set forth in ASTM C926. Insulite may be used in a standard scratch and brown application; or by the Alternate Method of Application per IBC 2512.8. Alternate Method of Application provides a better bond between coats, less shrinkage, improves curing and speeds completion times. Alternate Method of Application is not suggested for open-frame construction. Always verify Alternative Method is approved by local authorities before proceeding with this method of application.
Curing:
The product requires a minimum of forty-eight (48) hours moist curing. Environmental conditions such as heat, wind and low humidity will require additional curing.
Finishing:
A variety of finishes such as Western Exterior Stucco, Premium Acrylic Finish (PAF) – standard acrylic paints or elastomeric coatings may be applied over Insulite. The recommendations of the finish coat manufacturer shall be followed regarding base coat preparation, acceptable pH levels, bonding, application and curing of their finish.
Limitations:
Do not add accelerator, air entrainment or other admixtures to Insulite without written permission from an authorized manufacturer of Western Blended Products. Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are at or below 40°F / 4.40C or above 100°F / 34°C. Do not apply to surfaces that are contaminated with bond breakers, oils or other matter that may affect the performance of the product. Do not apply Insulite if conditions are expected to be above or below the specified temperature range within 24 hours of application.
