WBP Weather Flash (System)
A flashing liquid membrane for sealing windows, doors & other wall penetrations in EIFS Systems.
Product Information
Description:
Weather Flash is a flexible flashing liquid membrane & mesh system to be used for sealing windows, doors and other wall penetrations. Weather Flash is polymer-based, and it’s ready to use in combination with an approved fibermesh or WBP Grid Tape in order to create a Weather Flash System to be used for flashing EIF Systems substrate openings.
Uses:
The Weather Flash System is a weather resistant flashing transition for substrate openings that provides a weather-resistant continuation in conjunction with the Weather Guard weather-resistive barrier previously installed on the substrate. Weather Flash Systems may be used at inside & outside corners and to transition sheathing joints.
Benefits:
Weather Flash is ready to apply with a brush or roller over an approved dry substrate. It may be exposed to weather for a longer period than other flashing tape-based materials. It may also be used to reinforce inside and outside corners in WES EIFS 24 Systems.
Packaging:
Weather Flash is packaged in 40 Lb (18.2 kg) pails.
Coverage:
When combined with Fibermesh or Grid Tape for Weather Flash Systems, the coverage is noted below:
-
4” Fibermesh: 38 lf/lb (approx)
-
6” Fibermesh: 25 lf/lb (approx)
-
9” Fibermesh: 17 lf/lb (approx)
Mixing:
Material is ready for use after an initial spin-up using a drill with paddle mixer.
Application:
Apply a coat of Weather Flash over the substrate surface by using a brush or roller. Embed the approved fibermesh or grid tape into the wet coating right after the Weather Flash coating was applied. Add an additional coating of Weather Flash (as needed) over the fibermesh or grid tape and smooth out to remove rough wrinkles and to fully embed the fibermesh or grid tape ensuring an uniform coating free of voids. When going over joints, all fibermesh and Grid Tape materials shall overlap a minimum of 2”.
Fibermesh & Grid Tape:
Fibermesh is available in the following sizes:

-
4”X180’ (9 rolls per box).
-
6”X 180’ (6 rolls per box).
-
9”X 180’ (4 rolls per box).
-
Grid Tape is available in 4”X 300’ rolls.
System Drying:
Weather Flash Systems drying, when applied in optimal conditions (70°F ambient temperature with 50% humidity) , is approximately 30 to 90 minutes. Additional time may be required depending upon existing environmental conditions.
Acceptable Substrates:
-
Exterior grade gypsum sheathing meeting ASTM C 1396 (formerly C 79) requirements for water-resistant core or Type X core at the time of application.
-
Exterior sheathing having a water-resistant core with fiberglass mat facers meeting ASTM C 1177
-
Exterior fiber reinforced cement or calcium silicate boards
-
APA Exterior or Exposure 1 Rated Plywood, Grade C-D or better, nominal 1/2 in (12.7 mm), minimum, installed with the C face out.
-
APA Exterior or Exposure 1 Fire Retardant Treated Plywood, Grade C-D or better, nominal1/2 in (12.7 mm), minimum, installed with the C face out.
-
APA Exposure 1 Rated Oriented Strand Board (OSB) nominal 1/2 in (12.7 mm), minimum.
-
Unpainted, unsealed concrete and CMU.
-
Galvanized metal and aluminum.
Surface Preparation:
-
Substrates are structurally sound, free of loose materials, voids, projections or other conditions that may interfere with the installation of the components.
-
Substrates are dry, clean, free of oils, grease, efflorescence, or other liquid or solid debris.
-
There are no projections or planar irregularities greater than 1/4” within any 4' radius in the substrate.

Clean Up:
Clean tools with water while material is still wet.

Storage:
Weather Flash must be stored at a minimum of 40 °F (4 ° C) and a maximum of 100 °F (38 °C) in tightly sealed containers protected from weather and out of direct sunlight.

Cautions and Limitations:
Apply to acceptable substrates only. Avoid applying WBP Weather Flash in direct sunlight. Always work on the shady side of the wall or protect the area with appropriate shading material.
